There are several basic designs for metal seals.Bolt seal, ball seal and cable seal.
Bolt seal, cable seal, wire seal, padlock or fixed length seal.
Bolted seals are used to secure transport containers, trucks and trailers.Bolt seals used to hold containers must comply with ISO 17712 high safety seals in order to be accepted by customs worldwide during sea transportation.C-tpa (Counter-terrorism Customs Trading Partnership) specifies the security seal to be used in accordance with ISO 17712.Usually sealed by hand sealing bolt (push seal body and seal head together) and then open with bolt cutters. This provides a tight seal for transport while still facilitating port and warehouse staff.
Bolt seals are used to secure high value cargo, cross border cargo, trailers and container latches.Usually, they are closed by hand (the seal body and seal head are pushed together) and then opened with bolt cutters. This provides a tight seal for transport while still facilitating port and warehouse staff.
Cable seals have a wider range of USES and their variable length locking mechanism is determined by the length of the cable. They are usually aluminum or zinc.Applications include sealed trucks and railway wagons for the transport of valuable goods.
Clasp and padlock seals are made of metal and plastic; These seals provide ideal proof against demolition for small-bore applications such as electricity meters, drums, containers, and aircraft vehicles.
Security seals are an obvious tampering mechanism used to seal goods in transit transport containers in a way that provides tampering evidence and a degree of security.Such seals can help detect accidental or intentional theft or contamination.Safety seals are commonly used to secure truck trailers, containers, chemical drums, airline duty free trolleys, and utility meters.Often, they are considered a cheap way to provide tampering evidence to invade sensitive space.
There are two main types of safety seals: disposable and reusable.Disposable seals are usually made of plastic or metal, and the materials and production techniques used are key to their safety.Reusable seals are usually electronic or mechanical, rather than made exclusively of plastic or, if pure plastic, only a portion of them can be reused.Electrical and mechanical seals are commonly used in the transportation industry and are attached to the backs of trucks, trailers and containers.A reusable mechanical or electronic seal can be installed on the back door or on the loading door to extend the cable from itself through the fixed point on the door and generate a unique number and record it when sealed. This number changes the next time the door is opened, so it provides evidence of tampering with the load.
The seal accepted by customs is the security seal accepted by the customs department of the designated country/region as the security seal placed on the container. This does not mean that all exporters or importers should attach a customs-approved seal to their containers or trailers. Many businesses that transport high-value goods prefer to use customs-approved seals because they have been rigorously tested and of high quality.
The British Safety Seal Testing Authority tests these seals in various aspects such as “tensile strength”, “thermal effect”, “direct effect of freezing”, “valid number and marking”, “tampering with evidence”, etc.
The seals accepted by British Customs are divided into three types. Group 1 consists of 1000kg seals, Group 2 of 250kg seals and group 3 of other acceptable seals.Check out all stamps accepted by UK Customs here.
Seals can be customized to meet the user’s needs.Typical markings include logos, special text, handwritten white pads, serial Numbers, and 1D and 2D barcodes.A variety of marking techniques are used, including thermal printing, ink-jet printing, laser engraving and thermal printing.
The Customs Trading Partner Counter Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a voluntary supply chain security program led by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and focused on improving the security of the private enterprise supply chain against terrorism. The program was launched in November 2001 and initially had seven participants, all large American companies.Large safety seal manufacturers are included in the “invited foreign manufacturers” section of the decree.C-tpat compliant security ties represent compliance with international transport safety standards.
