What is ISO/PAS17712 standard?

ISO is the Organization code of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO17712 is an international standard, fully known as DS DS/ISO/PAS 17712 Freight CCS – Mechanical Seals.

ISO/PAS 17712, a standard procedure for mechanical sealing of containers, issued by the ISO International Organization for Standardization.This standardized procedure will help companies in charge of sealing operations effectively deal with a significant number of safety and security challenges during transportation.

Containers which adopt the ISO/PAS 17712 seal procedure will bear a unique seal on the seal to ensure that it is sealed.In addition, the standard classifies sealing procedures and applies different seal marks to containers that are received or returned.In order to strengthen the control of the sealing procedure and ensure the quality of the sealing operation, the new standard divides the sealing into six steps:

  1. Design each part of the sealing process;
  2. Actual experience of the manufacturer;
  3. Transit between shipper and intermediary dealer;
  4. Unified normalization of sealing operation;
  5. Management of the journey;
  6. Storage of after-sales data.

What are the levels and definitions of ISO/PAS17712?

In ISO/PAS 17712, seals are defined in the following three ways:

  1. Indicative seal;
  2. Safety seal;
  3. High security seal.

Technical specifications for the three seals can also be found in ISO/PAS 17712, so we had to choose a high security seal instead of a normal security seal.The seal manufacturer shall indicate in the relevant certificate the level of security of the seal or the parameters of each test.

Currently, case seals for containers passing through the United States must comply with ISO17712 standard.The shipping company shall provide ISO17712 STANDARD container seal when the customer receives the equipment delivery receipt. If the container is not used, the customer shall bear certain legal liability.

lead seal

What is a lead seal?

Lead seal means that after the goods are loaded into the container, something like a lock is locked on the container, which is divided into customs seal and commercial seal.Lead seals do not simply refer to the customs seal, but may also be added by the forwarder or shipping company to ensure that the goods are not used during transport.

It is stipulated in the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China that:
Article 37 Without the permission of the Customs, goods under customs control may not be opened, taken, delivered, dispatched, replaced, refitted, mortgaged, pledged, retained, transferred, marked or used for other purposes or otherwise disposed of.

What is the definition of customs seal?

Once the lead seal is properly locked, it cannot be opened unless violently broken (i.e. cut), and the damaged seal cannot be reused.Each seal is marked with a unique number.As long as the container is complete in appearance, the door of the container is closed correctly and the lead seal is locked normally, it can be proved that the container is not opened in transit without permission, and the situation inside the container shall be supervised by the packager when packing.
